About the Artist |

When I was in college I had a professor who was so passionate about painting he would sometimes spill his coffee while showing us slides of Cézanne's work. He would show us a painting he had seen hundreds of times and exclaim as if he were seeing it for the first time, "Goddamn, that's beautiful!" Sometimes this was all he could think of to say. Occasionally I will make a picture that makes me think of that, and that is what I work for every day: for that moment when I feel I have been successful at recreating on paper what nature already created so exquisitely. I believe all things happen for a reason. So I don't think it was an accident that a local photographer asked me to help in his studio the same week that a friend of his came to teach him how to do Polaroid transfers. After seeing the process I was hooked. I bought the equipment and a book and taught myself how to do it.
